Banner bonanza and my love of fabric

This isn’t a secret passion of mine, I shout loudly about my love of fabric and how versatile it can be. In my latest craft fairs I have promoted how I have rescued as much of my fabric from landfill as possible.

Banners can be an incredibly simple place to start if you are looking for a quick and easy sewing craft when you are a beginner. You really don’t need a pattern, as long as you roughly know the shape, size and style of pennant that you are looking for. Finished, mine measure 21cmx21cm so when I drew the shape on the fabric I added 2cm to this size all the way around so that I could sew a hem to make it neat and tidy. I also added an extra inch on the top so I could fold over again and have room for my bamboo rod. I didn’t use a pattern, just a fabric marker, a ruler and a sewing machine.

I tried to choose either motivational or funny quotes to make the banner eye catching. I found some bamboo sticks to hang my banners from. These were originally intended for use with plants and were reduced to clear in the winter months so I got 3 packs of 20 for a grand total of 30p.

I used my Cricut Maker 3 and Cricut Design Space to design and cut the vinyl phrases from heat transfer vinyl and used a mini heat press to transfer them to my fabric.

Each banner took me less than 30 minutes to complete, including designing and transferring the vinyl. These are a great pick-up gift item at a craft fair.
